Historical Perspective • 1954: ACSM Founded in NY • 1969: First MSSE published • 1975: ACSM's Guidelines for Graded Exercise Testing and Exercise Prescription 1st published • 1975: ACSM conducts first Exercise Leader Workshop in Aspen, Colorado; 20 individuals become ACSM's first Certified Exercise Specialists • 1976: 1st Exercise Technician cert. @ UW-L • 1984: ACSM Nat’l Center opens in Indianapolis • 1996: Surgeon Generals Report released (ACSM prominent role) • 1997: 1st Health & Fitness Summit & Exposition in New Orleans, Louisiana
