Safe Working Procedure - Skin Care Set your work objectives to include; “...tasks/ activities are to be completed on time and in a manner that does not cause harm to the employees, customers, other non-employees, or the company/ organisation.” • Three key questions to start with are… • What can cause harm? • What are you doing about it? • Is it enough? Remember the process is simple but it is NOT to be considered simplistic.

Safe Working Procedure - Skin Care • Skin Care • Instruct all personnel in basic skin-care procedure. • Provide washing facilities and emergency wash facilities. • Provide skin protection, e.g. protective clothing, barrier and reconditioning creams. • Encourage employees to carry out regular skin checks. • Report abnormal skin problems (e.g. dermatitis) immediately.
Safe Working Procedure - Skin Care • Use of Protective Clothing • Replace contaminated or wet protective clothing • Wash frequently all protective clothing (if necessary before removal in order to prevent the spread of contamination). • In order to prevent the spread of contamination protective clothing is not to be worn when it is not required, e.g. during rest breaks and meal times.
Safe Working Procedure - Skin Care • Care in The Sun • Employees are advised to take sun care precautions as follows; • Avoid exposure to direct sunlight, if possible, • Wear suitable protective clothing (e.g. wide- brimmed hats, long sleeves), • Work in the shade as much as possible, • Use sun protection cream (a minimum of SPF15 is recommended).
