  4. SCWI - The School/College/Work Initiative Apprenticeship Dual Credits at SLC: • Apprenticeship - Team-Taught • College Instructor/professor & high school teacher work together. Students earn their Level 1 Apprenticeship and high school credits • Apprenticeship – College-Taught • College Instructor/professor teaches the Level 1 Apprenticeship curriculum • The dedicated teacher assigned by area school boards is critical to the success of these students • Apprenticeship - Oversight • The College oversees the delivery of the Level 1 Apprenticeship curriculum by the secondary school through curriculum comparison, bringing students to the college for instruction, & delivering instruction at the high school.

Dual Credits Apprenticeship - Team-Taught The Limestone DSB Building Construction Internship/OYAP Apprenticeship Program General Carpenter 403A plus 4 secondary credits • Congregated Class - 21 Senior students earn their Level 1 General Carpenter Apprenticeship at St. Lawrence College, Kingston & 4 secondary credits – TCJ4C, MEL4E, plus 2 coop credits; • Semester 2 - Team-taught by 1 Full-time LDSB teacher and 2 SLC teachers; • 12 weeks at SLC followed by a 6 week Coop Education placement monitored by their LDSB teacher, followed by a 14 week paid apprenticeship; • Students work towards the completion of their SHSM in Construction.

Dual Credits Apprenticeship – College-Taught Brick & Stone Mason Level 1 Apprenticeship 401A plus 2 Dual Credits – Code OZK4T • Congregated Class - 20 senior students from all area school board at SLC, Kingston Campus earning their Level 1 Apprenticeship and 2 Dual Credits; • Semester 2 – Taught by 5 SLC teachers; • 10 weeks at the college followed by a 7 week Cooperative Education placement - 2 coop credits, then a 14 week paid apprenticeship; • Students work towards the completion of their SHSM in Construction;

Dual Credits Apprenticeship – College-Taught General Carpenter Level 1 Apprenticeship 403A plus 2 Dual Credits- Code OZT4T • Congregated Class - 20 senior students from area school board at SLC, Kingston Campus earning their Level 1 Apprenticeship and 2 Dual Credits; • Semester 2 – Taught by 5 SLC teachers; • 10 weeks at the college followed by a 7 week Cooperative Education placement- 2 coop credits, then a 14 week paid apprenticeship; • Students work towards the completion of their SHSM in Construction;

Dual Credits Apprenticeship – College-Taught CHEAP for OYAP – Carpenter, Hairstylist, Electrician, Automotive Technician, Plumber Carpenter403A – 2 Dual Credits OZT4T Hairstylist 332A - 2 Dual Credits OZV4T Electrician 309A - 2 Dual Credits OZY4T Automotive Technician 310S – 2 Dual Credits OZX4T Plumber 306A – 2 Dual Credits OZU4T • Top-Up Class – When excess seats are available within 2 weeks of the start-up of a Level 1 Apprenticeship 8-week program at our campuses, all area school boards are notified; • Students need to be enrolled in coop at the time; • Students earn 2 Dual Credits on successful completion of the program.

Dual Credits Apprenticeship - Oversight Limestone DSB’s Cook’s Internship Program Cook 415A plus up to 8 Secondary Credits • Oversight Class - 20 senior students in the Cook’s Internship Focus Program have the opportunity to earn their Level 1 Apprenticeship. • Curriculum Comparison completed by the Limestone DSB teacher and the Chef/Professor; • Semester 1 & 2 – SLC oversees the LDSB program and provides chef/professor time at the college and in the high school classroom; • Students must earn a 75% average in the class to earn their Level 1 Cook Apprenticeship designation.

Dual Credits New Proposal for 2009 – 2010Apprenticeship – College-Taught “Coiffe It Up”Level 1 Hairstylist Apprenticeship 332A - 2 Dual Credits OZV4T • Congregated Class - 20 senior students from ALCDSB stay in their focus school for Hairstyling Monday to Thursday mornings – Semester 2; • SLC Hairstyling Instructor comes to the school to teach; high school teacher stays in the class and becomes the dedicated teacher; • Students attend SLC campus every Friday morning to use the SLC Hairstyling lab; • Students are on Coop placement every afternoon.

SCWI Successes Through the support of the School/College/Work Initiative funding: • Level 1 Apprenticeship Students - up to 90 high school students will be completing Level 1 Apprenticeship programs with St. Lawrence College between April & June 2009; • Good partnerships have been developed and strengthened with St. Lawrence College, our area school boards, the Ministry Apprenticeship offices, Job Connect and employers in our communities. • Procedures have been developed to support student success in these programs and ensure a streamlined approach for future dual credit programs.

Expanded Opportunities! • Opens post secondary education to many students; • WIN WIN: Good for Student, School, College, and Community; • Helps to build strong High School/College collaboration; • Provides more opportunities for students; • Creates a strong beginning towards a pathway to success; • Increases rate of those students earning their OSSD, consistent with Ministry Mandate.
