  2. 1. What is a martyr? • A martyr is a person willing to die rather than give up his or her beliefs.

  3. 2. What writings are included in the new testament of the Christian Bible? • The writings are the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, plus the writings of Paul and other early Christian Leaders.

  4. 3. Fill in details on the effects each emperor had on the acceptance and growth of Christianity.

  5. 4. Following Jesus’ death, why was Christianity able to attract followers? • After his death Christianity offered hope and comfort; appealed to the emotions and promised life after death; gave people the chance to be part of a caring Group.

  6. 5. Why do you think the Christian church came to be ruled by a Hierarchy? • Answers may vary; Possible answer – the Roman Empire showed a successful way to unite different people in many places

  7. 6. Do you think the Christian religion would have spread so quickly if it had developed in a time other than that of the Roman Empire? • I believe it would have been harder to spread in a different time other that the Roman Empire. The Empire was so vast it was easy to spread information and ideas through. Secondly the use of trade routes helped in spreading Christianity. As well any other time period were not as open to change as the Romans. In conclusion Rome was the perfect time for Christianity to spread and it did.
