Issues and Culture • Drugs: Haiti is used as a transshipment point for Caribbean cocaine on its way to the U.S.. Colombian narcotics are also filtered through Haiti • Poverty: Poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and 78% of Haitians live on less than $2 a day • Health: Healthy life expectancy is 55 years for women and 53 years for men. • Culture: 80% Roman Catholic and 16% Protestant
