Facilitating understanding of the expectations of faculty and the culture of higher education. • Helping students develop a sense of self-efficacy as they come to regard themselves as learners who have control over their academic achievement. • Providing a variety of pedagogical approaches that inform different skill levels and learning styles, and working to actively involve students in the learning process. • Facilitating the transfer of learned skills and strategies to current and future coursework by engaging students in reflective thinking that promotes self-awareness. • Providing services and resources to faculty that enhance and support classroom instruction. CRITICAL FUNCTIONS
To support academic programs with co-curricular learning services • To provide a positive and inclusive environment for learning • To serve as a learning resource to the campus community and establish collaborative programming that increases opportunities for students to gain the academic, personal, and professional skills necessary for developing engaged citizens ACE Goals
Students participating in tutoring in the Learning Center and the Writers’ Room at least six times will earn better grades than their peers who do not use tutoring services. • Fifty percent of students participating in probation programming provided by ACE will use another service provided by the office. • Students actively participating in the Study Smarter Program five or more times will demonstrate improvement in self-identified study skill deficiencies. • After regular participation in initial and ongoing training, Learning Center and Writers’ Room tutors will apply appropriate pedagogies to each student tutoring session. • First-Year Writing Faculty will indicate a high level of satisfaction with tutoring services provided by the Writers’ Room. Continued development and expansion of Writing Across the Curriculum initiatives • Create a tutor training curriculum for Levels 2 & 3 of CRLA certification (including online components) • Create peer mentoring curriculum for CRLA certification 2 – 4 Year Planning ideas
Implement synchronous online tutoring project in the Learning Center and asynchronous capability in the Writers’ Room • Develop and implement online Academic Skills Workshops • Continue to work toward implementation of a university-wide probation program • Implementation of Writers’ Roundtables 2 – 4 Year Planning ideas (cont.)
