  1. What is inside a Sketchbook? • You will find notes • You will find thumbnails • You will find pencil & painting techniques • You will find drawings • You will find collage pictures

Sketchbook Uses • Sketchbooks are books with ideas inside them. • These include: • Thumbnails: small 2x2 squares with drawings • Composites: larger more worked out drawings • Skills practice: brush and pencil techniques • Note taking: ideas that need background description • Ideas: drawings and or notes together • Line Drawings: outlines of a drawing • Shapes: overlap shape ideas • Textures: building up texture ideas • Colors: practice color combinations

Sketchbook with thumbnail procedure • Pick up sketchbook when you first arrive to class • Look up at board • Start thumbnails by drawing square (2x2) • Date and label the thumbnails • Give each thumbnail a description • Be neat, effort counts • Each week’s thumbnails are worth 5% • Student will stamp thumbnails when complete

  4. Sketchbook clean up • Usually at end of class sketchbooks will get put away. • Students will close and return sketchbooks to their storage place. • On occasion we may need to put sketchbooks away earlier because we need more room.
