  3. Grading Guidelines • Major Grades – 70% • Daily Grades – 30 % • Homework • approximately 10% of daily grade

  4. Major Grades • Tests: scheduled on • TUESDAY / THURSDAY • Multiple choice • Essays • In class essays may be on other days

  5. Reading Days: Graded assignment • Books in class • Quiz over reading assignments & study questions

  6. Text Book • Traditions & Encounters: A Global Perspective on the Past • Jerry H. Bentley & Herbert F. Ziegler • McGraw-Hill • Look for online resources • Used copies from Alibris.com

  7. CONSIDER BUYING … • USED COPY OF THE TEXT BOOK • ALIBRIS.COM is a good starting place • Paper back copies • Divided into 2 or 3 volumes • Make sure to get the ENTIRE book

  8. Study guides • Purchase of a study guide is highly recommended for students to prepare of the AP exam in May. • Kaplan, Princeton, Crash Course are all good IF you use them

  9. Class Organization • some group work • Reading assignments • Working with documents • Notes

  10. Not the traditional approach… • Major trends & developments & how they fit together • Changes over time • Comparing & contrasting time periods

  11. Basic Expectations… • R E S P E C T everyone & their opinions • Come prepared & class will be more interesting…really • No food/drinks/gum

  12. ELECTRONICS • Keep them put away unless specifically given permission to use • Under NO circumstances are they to be used on TEST DAYS • Abuse will result in a low conduct grade/ write up/ confiscation

  13. What I Expect… • Mature behavior … it merits mature treatment…vice versa • Talking at appropriate times & use of acceptable language • I do give “Ns” in conduct

  14. READ • READING the assigned chapters is very important • Students will not score well on the AP EXAM if they have not read the book!
