Requirements for successful completion 1. All complusory “Os”, “Ps” and “FDs” to be filled in 2. One FD for sections B1- 5 (including an earmould impression) to be completed by a university assessor 3. The competency signatures page to be complete 4. Four individual projects to be successfully completed 5. Satisfactory PDP 6. Satisfactory end of placement reports for both 6 month blocks
Assessment 1 • Areas B1-5 and A10 • Form for each section – filled in by both university assessor and local supervisor – agree • Make sure you and local supervisor agree how the day will be organised • Have a brief chat with student at the beginning of the day to explain how the day will be organised and to calm any nerves
Assessment 1 • Before each patient, ask the student to explain what they know about the patient and what their plan is for the session • At the end of each patient, ask the student a few questions. Explore their ability to link theory with practice. This would normally be done after a brief chat with the local supervisor
Assessment 1 • Give student helpful verbal feedback • Back this up in comments section of IRCP (best done on the day) • Return forms to Cat either electronically or hard copy • Flag any concerns with Jane
Assessment 2 • As for assessment 1 • Additionally • competency signatures • summary form • Give yourself plenty of time for this visit
Assessment 2 • Competency signatures – final statement from local supervisor that student is consistently competent in each area – both local supervisor and university assessor sign • Important safety net for weak students who happen to do enough on assessment day
Assessment 2 Summary form – 5 sections – may want to do this in advance • FDs for every subsection for B1-5 • All “O” “P” and “FD” signed for compulsory sections of IRCP • Competency signatures • 2 final individual projects completed • PDP satisfactory – you need to look at it but be guided by local supervisor
Assessment 2 Summary form • Depending on timing of visit, the summary form may be incomplete. Need to formulate (and record) a plan with local supervisor to address outstanding areas before end of placement year • Need to follow up to make sure actions have occurred • Return forms to Jane immediately after visit with subsequent emails regarding progress with any actions

Practicalities • Complete declaration • Let Cat know any useful information – days of the week that availability is best, how far you are able to travel, whether you are willing to stay overnight • Expenses • Take all paperwork with you • Liaise with local supervisor re start times
Quality Assurance • Regular attendance at PBA training day (every 3 years) • University Assessor to support on first assessment • Buddy system • End of first year de-brief • Do we need anything else?
