  4. Paper Recycling We collected “clean” paper for recycling from: • the school office • church office • Pastor’s office • the teacher’s break room/copy room • the Pre K – 6th Grade classrooms.

  5. Videos: Paper Weighing

  6. The Christmas Tree Project We recycled discarded Christmas trees into canes and walking sticks. Over four months, we: • Collected the trees, minus their branches, • Stripped off the bark (a long, tedious process!), • Sanded the trunks smooth, • Stained the trunks, • Applied four coats of urethane, and • Glued a compass into the top.

  11. Our Numbers Our club helped us to learn many ways to become “green” and how to bring that knowledge to our community of family and friends. We have recycled over 28 kg of paper (approximately 61 lbs) from our school and church building. Eight Christmas trees have found a “new usefulness” and have been transformed into canes and walking sticks.

  12. Moving Forward We hope that our efforts may inspire others to become Stewards of the Environment, too!

  13. Our Website for the International Cyber Fair Competition: • Non-Indigenous “Invasive” Species (Peer Review component) • We reviewed six competing websites. One from China, and five from Taiwan. Bravo, fellow competitors!

  14. Special Thanks Our team received wonderful and generous support from so many people: • Our Parents and Families • The Faculty, Staff, and Students of ORLS • Ms. Amy Schildwachter, ESBOCES • Mrs. Michelle Zaloom, Student Transportation • Mr. & Mrs. (Richard and Nancy) Damm, Christmas Tree Canes project, Tree Collection and Preparation Thank You for Everything!
