Attendance • You must not miss more than 3 classes. • After the second absence: -10 pts • On 4th absence: Withdrawal • You must not have more than 3 “lates”. • On 3rd late: -5 pts Students with excessive absence or tardiness may be withdrawn from the class.
Leaving Class Early • If you need to leave class early due to an appointment or emergency, you must inform the instructor at the beginning of class. • Students who leave early without informing the instructor will be marked absent for the day and lose 10 points.
Late Work You are allowed: 1 late Unit test (within 6 days.) 1 late quiz (within 6 days.) 1 late homework assignment. ALL OTHERS MISSED WILL BE 0’S! Lab assignments: -20% for each day they are late.
REA 2 Requirements • Pass the class with a 70% or higher. • Pass the lab with a 70% or higher. • Pass the Florida State Reading Competency Test with a 70% or higher. .
REA 2 Texts • Reading Across the Disciplines – Valencia ed. NEW text only • Thinking Through the Test (comes with new text) • 3 packages of Green Scantrons • Pencils w/ GOOD erasers • Dictionary • Notebook paper, notebook
REA 2 Lab • You MUST pass lab with 70% or higher to pass the course. • Labs are collected 4 times this semester. • Missing one unit of labs will result in a D or lower- failing lab. • If you pass the class and final, but fail lab, you still fail the course and must repeat it.
Purpose & Objectives • Improve literal & inferential comprehension • Increase vocabulary • Improve critical thinking • Enhance communication skills • Improve study skills
Procedures • Homework is collected at the beginning of class. • If your paper is not in my hands when I collect it, it is deemed “Late”. • If you are not in class when I take attendance, you will be marked absent. • Please remind me (at end of class) if you came in late.
Learning Environment • Cell phones OFF and out of sight • No calls or text messaging in class • No iPods, CD players, or other fun stuff • Remove on-ear cell phones • Electronic dictionaries and translators are welcome, but not during tests and quizzes. • “twelve inch” voices (except when addressing the class)

How to Get an A (or close to it): • Do all the homework to the best of your ability. • Study for quizzes and tests. • Write down assignments & dates of tests. • Hand in Lab Assignments on time, completed 100%. • Attend all classes, on time. • Work cooperatively with your team. • Pay attention & stay focused. • Ask for help if you need it.
