What is Airport Sustainability? • Airport sustainability planning is a holistic approach to managing an airport to ensure: • Economic viability, • Operational efficiency, • Natural resource conservation, and • Social responsibility. • -- Airports Council International of North America, and adopted by Florida Airports Council
Why are we here? • To finalize the goals of the Sustainability Management Plan • To receive input on the development of objectives and reasonable initiatives to accomplish each objective.

Overview of Public Visioning Workshop • Over 25 participants • Strong engagement and interest in sustainability / project • Agreement on draft goals • Productive brainstorming of potential strategies to reach goals
Definition of Goals - Categories • Overall Sustainability Goal for NFRA • Economic Vitality • Planned Development • Energy • Air Quality • Natural Resources/Water Quality and Conservation • Materials Use and Waste Management • Airport Connectivity • Noise • Socioeconomic Benefits/Public Relations
Definition of Goals - Process • Draft text for each category of goals will be displayed and read aloud • Discussion of each draft goal • Comments addressed and consensus reached • Goal text finalized
Overall Sustainability Goal • To maintain Northeast Florida Regional Airport as a vibrant community asset that serves the needs of area residents and businesses, promotes economic growth in the region, and operates in an economically and environmentally sustainable manner that conserves natural resources and protects the environment.
Economic Vitality • Enhance growth and ensure the Airport’s long-term financial sustainability by maintaining a competitive and commercially viable facility that contributes to the regional economy.
Planned Development • Incorporate sustainability initiatives into future Airport development plans to maximize long-term cost effectiveness and minimize environmental and social impacts of future projects.
Energy • Minimize the rate of consumption by the Airport and its tenants, and increase use of renewable energy sources.
Air Quality • Minimize the Airport’s emission of air pollutants and greenhouse gases.
Natural Resources / Water Quality & Conservation • Minimize unavoidable impacts to natural resources on Airport property while developing the airport and ensuring its safe operation.
Natural Resources / Water Quality & Conservation • Minimize water consumption and continue to protect water quality.
Materials Use and Waste Management • Minimize the generation and impacts of waste through materials reuse and recycling, and purchase of environmentally preferable materials.
Airport Connectivity • Strengthen the Airport’s connectivity to the region, and promote multimodal transportation access, particularly with the potential introduction of commercial airline service.
Noise • Minimize noise impacts on surrounding communities and proactively address aircraft noise issues.
Socioeconomic Benefits/Public Relations • Continue to be a positive catalyst for economic development in the local and regional economy while maintaining “good neighbor” status.
