P4 Visit to SS Nomadic Botanic Primary School Belfast
The Nomadic SS Nomadic is a steamship of the White Star Line, launched on 25 April 1911 in Belfast. Built as a tender to RMS Olympic and RMS Titanic, she is now the last surviving White Star Line vessel.
We entered the Nomadic through the first class passengers entrance
The passengers could have a free drink from the bar or free cup of tea.
The second class passengers did not have a bar and their floor was plain.
The Nomadic took first and second class passengers to the Titanic. Third class passengers had to go on a smaller ship.
We walked around the ship and saw the fancy fitting The staircases were very grand for a ship.
SS Nomadic has recently been restored to its former high standard in Belfast. It is now open to the public.
We spent some time doing an art workshop. We used paper plates as a porthole and made collages of what we might have seen outside
It was great fun dressing up as a sailor. Some of the trousers were very tricky to get into.
The life jackets were filled with cork so that they would float,
Only they proved to be dangerous and actually killed some passengers !
The thing that P4 enjoyed the most was blowing the ships horn.
