2. NOUNS • CONCRETE nouns • are nouns that you can see or touch and are usually person, place, and thing nouns • teacher, school, computer • ABSTRACT nouns • are nouns that you cannot see or touch and usually are ideas or emotions • education, religion, peace

3. Making NOUNS plural • add an –s to make most nouns plural dog  dogs cookie  cookies • add an –es to nouns that end in –s, -x, -z, -ch, and –shax  axes bush  bushes • if noun ends in –y, change –y to -i and add –espuppy  puppies fairy  fairies

4. Making NOUNS plural • for some nouns that end in –f or –fe, change –f to –v and add –esknife  knives elf  elves • for a few nouns that end in –f or -fe, add -s café  cafés • for some nouns there are no rules and you have to learn and memorize plurals child  children goose  geese

5. POSSESSIVE NOUNS • shows ownership of things or qualities • tells to whom or to what another nouns belongs • can be singular or plural • usually formed by adding ’s to singular possessive nouns and s’ to plural possessive nouns • Mrs. Speckhahn’shouse; Annie’s and Sophie’s dog; the girls’ dog
