  1. Water and ph Done by: Rashid Khalid Alneaimi Class: 11 - 06

  2. First of all what is pH? • pH is a measure of the acidityor basicity of a solution • Pure water is said to be neutral, with a pH close to 7.0 at 25 °C

  3. Here is some typical ph value

  4. What affects water pH? • Local geology  • Soil conditions • Surrounding vegetation  • Mining activities  • Industry runoff/water pollution • Other human activities near water body • PH of rainwater and up-wind air pollution sources

  5. How do we measure the ph? pH meter pH Paper

  6. In general, water with a pH lower than 7 is considered acidic, and with a pH greater than 7, basic. The normal range for pH in surface water systems is 6.5 to 8.5 and for groundwater systems 6 to 8.5. Alkalinity is a measure of the capacity of the water to resist a change in pH that would tend to make the water more acidic.

  7. The end Thank you for watching
