Remember: • Although the following are discrete questions taken from WJEC examination papers you must also round your answers correctly in several other questions that will be asked in you examination. • The discrete questions concentrate on rounding to the correct number of significant figures where the other questions will usually require rounding to the correct number of decimal places.

  3. 3 (a) Write down 45·3476 correct to 3 significant figures Ans = 45·3 [1] (b) Write down 7462 correct to 2 significant figures Ans = 7500 [1]

  4. 6 (a) Write down 839·7 correct to 3 significant figures Ans = 840 [1] (b) Write down 0·03426 correct to 2 significant figures Ans = 0·034 [1]

  5. 4 (a) Write down 74·8612 correct to 3 significant figures Ans = 74·9 [1] (b) Write down 6·0432 correct to 2 significant figures Ans = 6·0 [1]

  6. 5 (a) Write down 3742 correct to 1 significant figures Ans = 4000 [1] (b) Write down 0·06731 correct to 3 significant figures Ans = 0·0673 [1]

  7. Write down the following numbers correct to 2 significant figures. • 0·063732 • 7934 Ans = 0·064 [1] Ans = 7900 [1]

  8. Write down the following numbers correct to 2 significant figures. • 0·00539 • 892 Ans = 0·0054 [1] Ans = 890 [1]

  9. 2 (a) Write down 789·6 correct to 3 significant figures Ans = 790 [1] (b) Write down 0·05726 correct to 2 significant figures Ans = 0·057 [1]

  10. correct to 1 decimal place Type the numbers into your calculator: Remember to put brackets around the numerators and denominators. (6·7 x 13·1)  (3·5 x 4·8) = 5·224404763 Ans = 5·2 to 1 decimal place. [2]
