  2. When to use rounding? Students should use rounding when they are asked to estimate. If a word problem uses the word approximately, or about rounding should be used! Example: Sally has 485 stickers in her collection. Joey has 237 stickers in his collection. About how many stickers do they have altogether? **Have students underline the keywords. **Decide what the keywords tell you to do. **Round each of the numbers. Then add!

  3. Steps to Round to Nearest Ten 1.) Underline the place you are rounding to (tens) 47 2.) Draw an arrow to the place to the right. 47

  4. 3.) The arrow shows that number is BOSS. It tells the underlined number what to do. 4 or less, let it rest underlined number rests or stays the same.5 or more, let it soarunderlined number soars up to the next number47(seven is 5 or more, so the 4 will soar up to 5)

  5. 47(the seven tells the 4 to soar to a 5)5 (Everything after turns to 0)50

  6. No matter what place you are rounding to…follow same steps. Remember that everything before the underlined number stays the same. Everything after the underlined number turns to zero. 375= 380
