  1. Warm-up • Graph: • 4x – 6y = 18 • Write the equation of the line with slope ½ and through the point (4, -5). Use point slope form. • Write it in slope intercept form

  2. 3.6 Slopes of Parallel and Perpendicular Lines 10/31 with practice on 11/1

  3. Learning Targets I can tell if two lines are parallel or perpendicular by finding their slopes. I can write equations of parallel and perpendicular lines.

  4. Parallel Lines have equal slopes (and different y intercepts) • Line 1 contains A(-4, 2) and B(3, 1) • Line 2 contains C(-4, 0) and D(8, -2) Are Lines 1 and 2 Parallel? Hint, find the slopes

  5. Are Lines 4y – 12x = 20 and y = 3x -1 Parallel? Are lines y = - x + 6 and 2x + 4y = 20 Parallel?

  6. Write an equation for the line parallel to y = -4x + 3 and through the point (1, -2) Write an equation for the line parallel to y = 8x – 2 and through the point (6, -1)

  7. Perpendicular Lines have slopes that are negative reciprocals of each other (their product is -1) What is a negative reciprocal?

  8. Line 1 goes through (-2, 3) and (6, -3) • Line 2 goes through (-3, -2) and (0, 2) Are lines 1 and 2 Perpendicular? Hint: find the slopes

  9. Are the following lines perpendicular? 2x – 7y = -42 4y = -7x – 2

  10. Are the following lines perpendicular? 2x + 3y = 6 6x – 4y = 24

  11. Write an equation of a line Perpendicular to y = -3x + 5 and through the point (-3, 7)

  12. Write the equation for a line that contains (1, 8) and is perpendicular to y = ¾ x + 1

  13. No homework, but be prepared to practice this further.

  14. Day 3 Review 3.5-3.6 (11/1) Practice worksheet with follow up quiz on Monday
