  4. DistrictDRESS CODE • Policy information has been sent home • No short shorts or short skirts • No tube tops • No spaghetti strap tops • No hats in the classrooms

  5. Special 5th Grade Activities • School Safety Patrols • Spelling Bee (October) • WBLS News • Science Fair Help Night (Dec.) • Science Fair (tentative date- February 17, 2012) • Tropicana Speech Contest (November-December) Speeches written by every student and presented in homeroom class

  6. 5th Grade Field Trips Please be sure to turn in your child's Activity Fee money! • Challenger Learning Center Date- TBA • Brogan date TBA • Nutcracker date TB -End of the YEAR trip (to be paid separately) May 8, 2012 *Cost included in Activity Fee

  7. AIMS WEB • Baseline testing for reading and math • Three times per year • Used for progress monitoring

  9. Reading/ Literature Groups Instructional Materials: • Reading Mastery/Corrective Reading • “Imagine It!” (Story read multiple times) • SRA Imagine It eSuite on line. • Content Leveled Readers • Children’s literature books

  10. Reading/ Literature cont. Grades Consist of: • Reading Class folder • Class Discussion and Participation • In-class reading activities • Assigned homework • Weekly comprehension tests

Assignments/Activities: • Skill work related to “Imagine It!” story/Language Arts • Develop vocabulary, reading strategies, and writing skills • Comprehension test/spelling/vocabulary test /fluency check/grammar • Chapter work in novels • Outside reading with AR • Book Reports

  12. Math Instructional materials used: • Go Math Textbook, Go Math Practice Workbook (for home and school) • Sunshine Math—great thinking problems • Math Manipulatives (hands-on learning)

  13. Math cont. Assignments/Activities: • Go Math and other sources--Problem Solving • Hands-On Concept Development Grades Consist of: • Folder work • Quizzes/ Tests • Homework/Participation Immediate Concern: We need YOUR help with times table mastery! Please use “times” cards at home.

  14. Science Units Covered: • Nature of Science, Life Science, Earth Science, Physical Science, Natural Resources and the Environment, Technology and Society. Instructional Materials: • Houghton Mifflin Science Series- Fusion • AIMS Active Learning • GEMS Series

  19. Writing Activities/Assignments: Students will receive writing instruction in ALL content areas. Grades consist of: Tropicana Speech Contest (November/ December) Practice Prompts across the Curriculum WUR

  21. SUCCESSMAKER Daily individualized sessions for 35 minutes for reading and math.

  22. Homework Policies • Late homework will not be accepted. • Accommodations will be made for individual circumstances • It is in the STUDENT’S responsibility to ask for work and notes that are missed due to an absence
