  2. CAREWare • CAREWare - Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) system for collecting information on Ryan White funded services • All regional providers funded for care services must report into CAREWare • Data following are for care services provided from 1/1/2011 to 12/31/2011

Limitations of CAREWare Data • Limited to services provided by regional AIDS Service Organizations (ASOs) who receive RW regional funds – other providers may be providing services to Persons Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) which are not included in CAREWare • Some duplicated counts of clients are included if clients receive services from multiple agencies

Core Medical Services Received in 2011 • Only five of the core services were received by clients in 2011. • Substance abuse outpatient services had the highest visits per client served (12.33). • Mental health treatment had the next highest visits per client at 11.67. • Medical case management services was third at 10.68 visits per client.

  17. Summary • The agencies that reported into CAREWare in 2011 served 2732 clients. There are likely duplicates. About 15% are new clients. • About one-half of the 2732 are HIV positive, no AIDS; an additional 12% have unknown AIDS status and could be assumed to be without AIDS and added to the 50%; approximately one-third (34.26%) have CDC-defined AIDS.

  18. Summary (continued) • The predominant gender of clients in service in 2011 is male (72.8%). Approximately one-fourth (26.5%) is female. Less than one per cent (0.7%) is transgender. • Most clients served fall into age group 45-64 (59.0%), followed by age group 25-44 (33.24%). • About one-half of clients is White; about 44% is Black; a few clients of other minority race/ethnicity are served. • Only 2.3% is of Hispanic ethnicity.

  19. Summary (continued) • Nearly all clients served in 2011 are permanently housed (91%). • 62.6% of clients served has public-funded insurance. This shows that services are being provided to the population targeted by the Ryan White Program funds, that is, uninsured, under-insured, and low-income persons.

  20. Summary (continued) • Looking at changes over time from 2005-2011, there is an apparent increase in number of persons receiving services, although there is a ‘blip’ in 2005. I have no explanation for this. • The per cent of female clients served is going down and has decreased from 33% in 2007 to 26.5% in 2011. • The percent of clients with publicly-funded medical insurance has averaged a little over 60% from 2005 to 2011.

  21. Summary (continued) • The majority of clients who are permanently housed continued to be high from 2005 to 2011. A drop is observed in 2008, but may be due to missing data. • Clients receiving services tend to fall into the older age group over time (45-64), as can be expected, and increased from 43.04% in 2005 to 59% in 2011. An increase in the percent of younger persons (13-24) from about 2% to 5% in 2007 has not been maintained.
