RESTORING AND MANAGING LONGLEAF PINE ECOSYSTEMS Mission Statement To provide knowledge and strategies for restoring, managing, and sustaining longleaf pine ecosystems
CURRENT PROBLEM AREAS Providing fundamental physiological knowledge needed to understand the processes that affect longleaf pine seedling production, establishment, growth, and development. Providing ecological information about population and community processes that affect restoration of longleaf pine woodlands and at risk native species.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE VISITS • Formal reviews of the scientific work undertaken by each Research Work Unit (RWU) to ensure that these efforts continue to address the issues of greatest importance to various natural resources constituencies and the general public.
TRADITIONAL TAV PROCEDURE Issue invitations to selected individuals Meet at one central location Formal presentations by scientists General discussion Breakout groups Thank everyone and send them home Unit summarizes the information Revise unit’s charter
REVISED TAV PROCEDURE • Any interested parties may attend • Hold listening sessions in multiple locations • Brochures instead of formal presentations by all scientists • Ask five critical questions about the Unit’s work • Thank everyone and WE go home • Unit summarizes the information • Hold TAV Synthesis Meeting for feedback • Revise unit’s charter
