Advanced Studies in High School How will this help students in secondary school? The following advanced studies options are available in CCPS high schools: • Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) courses • Advanced Placement (AP) courses • Dual Enrollment courses
Goal • Our Goal: To provide additional advanced study options in middle and elementary schools • Historically, in middle schools these opportunities were provided via high school credit courses such as Algebra 1 and Spanish 1 typically at the 8th grade level
Advanced Studies in Middle School • NEW:2016-2017 • Cambridge Secondary implemented • In 6th – 8th grades • Incorporating: • English Language Arts • Math • Science • Social Studies
Advanced Studies in Elementary Schools • NEW: 2017-18Cambridge Primary • In 3rd – 5th grades • Incorporating: • English Language Arts • Math • Science • Social Studies • NEW: 2018-19 Cambridge Primary • In K – 2ndgrades • Incorporating: • English Language Arts • Math • Science • Social Studies

Cambridge Primary What is Cambridge Primary? • Cambridge Primary is an approach to providing complex instruction and resources • Cambridge Primary is not a program • Cambridge Primary emphasizes learner qualities, such as being reflective and innovative • Cambridge Primary Resources will be infused into CCPS curriculum maps for English Language Arts, mathematics, science, and social studies to extend student learning • Cambridge Primary students may have different homework – they will not have more homework • Cambridge Primary students will have a summer assignment (details to follow)
Cambridge Primary Invitation Who is invited to participate in 2018-19? • All incoming kindergarten students • All rising 1st - 5th grades students identified as gifted or high-achieving
Cambridge Primary How can students participate in Cambridge Primary? • Parents may choose to sign a Cambridge Primary Letter of Commitment for their students to participate at the Cambridge Parent Night tonight • Cambridge Primary Letters of Commitment are due on or before Tuesday, May 8, 2018
Cambridge Primary and Curriculum • Students will be instructed according to the Florida Standards • Teachers will utilize Cambridge Primary strategies across content areas, as appropriate, and will follow enhanced District curriculum maps and pacing guides • Let’s look at Cambridge Primary through the eyes of our students
Cambridge Primary Teachers • Cambridge Primary Teachers are: • Identified by school principals • Currently gifted endorsed or willing to become endorsed • Eager to support the learning needs of gifted and high-achieving students
Tell Me More. . . • Cambridge Primary is an enhancement of our current clustered model • Cambridge Primary is not a package or program • Cambridge Primary is an approach to cognitively complex instruction incorporating inquiry-based strategies and using currently adopted instructional resources • Cambridge Primary classrooms will follow the Florida Standards • Cambridge Primary students will participate in State and local assessments as other students do • Cambridge Primary teachers will receive professional learning support to implement strategies designed to enhance standard curriculum for students identified as gifted or high-achieving

Cambridge Primary and Secondary Criteria • As students progress through Cambridge Primary and Secondary in elementary and middle school, the criteria becomes progressively more challenging from: • first-third • fourth-fifth • sixth-eighth • Additional students may be considered each year for potential inclusion in Cambridge Primary and Cambridge Secondary
Cambridge Primary Criteria 2018-19 Rising First – Third Grades • Students identified as gifted • Students scoring in the 80th percentile on iReady reading assessment at any point during the school year
Cambridge Primary Criteria 2018-19 Rising Fourth Grade • Students identified as gifted • Students scoring at or above 80th percentile on iReadyreading assessment or at or above 65th percentile on the grade level math assessment Rising Fifth Grade • Students identified as gifted • Students scoring at Level 4 or 5 on Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) English Language Arts (ELA) and Math • Students scoring at Level 3 on either the FSA ELA or Math assessment in combination with a 4 or 5 in the other area
Additional Acceleration Options at the Elementary Level Collier Online Virtual Education (COVE) Spanish for Middle School Credit • 5th grade students identified as gifted • 5th grade students scoring at Level 4 or 5 on Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics Elementary Math Challenge • Students identified as gifted • Students scoring at Level 4 or 5 on the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) Mathematics
Cambridge Secondary Criteria 2018-19 Cambridge Secondary (Grades 6-8) • Students identified as gifted • Students scoring at Level 4 or 5 on the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) in BOTH English Language Arts and Mathematics
Advanced Studies Options-High School Advanced Placement (AP) • Courses designed by College Board and eligible for college credit dependent on score for cumulative exam Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) • Courses eligible for college credit dependent on score for cumulative exam • Potential for Cambridge AICE Diploma Dual Enrollment • Courses that satisfy both high school graduation requirements and college credit in the state of Florida • Offered on high school campuses and local college/university campuses **Prerequisites for enrollment in high school courses varies; there is no determined criteria as with Cambridge Primary and Cambridge Secondary**
