The primary focus of this group is to formalize reuse and sharing of resources. • Program Goals • • Take usable discards from the waste stream of hotels and share them with nonprofit organizations. • • Provide in-kind support for nonprofit agencies. • • Support city and state waste reduction mandates for each participating city. • Program Components • • Monthly meetings to share reusable items between hotels and nonprofits. • • “Green business” education for hotel and nonprofit managers to improve operations and reduce costs. • • Recognition and documentation of materials exchanged.

  10. Benefits of Program The benefits of the program are multi-faceted and can be described as a win-win-win. • Hotels Donate • Non-Profits Receive • Items Stay Out of Landfill

  11. Benefits of Program • Saves Money for Hotels & Non-Profits • By reducing discards, hotels will save on their monthly disposal costs. And, by receiving the reusable items, nonprofits save valuable funds for other program uses.

  12. Benefits of Program • Provides Desired Service • Hotels are looking for ways to be involved with the community while reducing discards. Nonprofits are looking for reusable items. HNC matches these desired services.

  13. Benefits of Program • Helps Cities Meet State Recycling Mandate • Each city is mandated by the state to meet and maintain at least a 50% diversion rate of materials from the waste stream. The HNC helped San Francisco achieve 70% diversion rate.
