The Infinite Value of a Godly Father Romans 8:15-16
Three things to understand about being a godly father: 1. Understand that fatherhood is a tremendous privilege and an awesome challenge.
2. Understand that our heavenly father is the ultimate role model.
1 John 3:1 How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! A godly father lavishes love on his children.
Matthew 6:6a But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. A godly father listens to his children.
Matthew 7:9-11 “Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! A godly father gives good gifts to his children.
Hebrews 12:9-11 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live! Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. A godly father lovingly disciplines his children.
Psalm 103:13-14 As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. A godly father has compassion for his children.
Mark 14:36 “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.” A godly father helps his children do the hard thing.
Ephesians 6:4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the lord. A godly father disciples his children.
