The word Condemnation in Romans 8:1 • Means judgment coming on someone • God condemned his son so that we would not be condemned • Judgment took place over 2000 years ago • God’s wrath was poured out on him, he was wounded for our transgressions (when we go beyond our limits); bruised for our iniquities (wicked acts) • When we come to Christ we are declared NOT GUILTY. We are identified with Christ Jesus.
Verse 8:1 • We can’t be separated from God even with sin problems • God gave us Jesus as our solution • Once you become a Christian, you will no longer be judged against your sins. Your slate is wiped clean. • Christ becomes your ark of safety. • You will be at the judgment seat of Christ to give account of how faithfully you live in your Christian life since you were saved.
Verse 8:2 • Sin is an active force in our life. (Law of sin is death) • It consumes every location we enter, but Christ made us free from sin. (Law of the spirit and life)
Verse 8:3 • The law can help, but it can’t make us right • A mirror can show dirt but is it cleansing? • Problem is not with God’s law, but with our sinful nature. • Christ came into the flesh but he never sinned.
Verse 8:4 • Righteousness (acting or being in accordance with what is just, right, honorable, and being free from guilt or wrong • It also means righteous requirements • This verse says, “in us.” • It doesn’t say by us. • God does it in me with the help of the Holy Spirit • When we think of the laws, two commandments summarize all of God’s laws. • I should love God • I should love my neighbor • When we allow God to do his work in us, it allows us to keep the law

Verse 8:5 -7 • Minding of the flesh is death • Minding of the spirit is life and peace • Flesh is always God’s enemy – it rebels against God Verse 8:8 People of the flesh (unsaved) can’t please God Spiritual Minded (Friend of God) • Hebrews 11:6 • Hebrews 13:21 • Says only please God through Jesus
Verse 8:9 • Saved is in Christ (IN THE SPIRIT) • Your body is the Spirit’s dwelling place Verse 8:10 • Jesus Christ is in the person • Our body will be made alive when Christ returns • We are made alive spiritually • This took place at salvation
Verse 8:11 • If God can raise Jesus from the dead then he can take care of our bodies as well. One day he will raise us from the dead. Verse 8:12 • We give to the flesh everyday • Instead we should be obligated to live to the spirit (Christian obligation) Verse 8:13 • Living in flesh is a sentence for death • Living for Christ is life • When Christ died he crucified the flesh • When he died, I died • I learned how to have faith through him with forgiveness of my sins
Verse 8:14 • True Believer is spirit led • Christ leads and his sheep follow • The spirit is ever working in our lives to lead down the right path (controlling or convicting us) • The spirit never leaves us
Verse 8:15 • We are like a son standing before his father • We are not a slave • ABBA means father
Verse 8:16 • The spirit is a blessed person not an it • The human spirit makes us sensitive to Go while the Holy Spirit assures I belong to God and convicts me
