The Military Child Education Coalition is an interdisciplinary committee comprised of Wayne County Public School leaders, WCPS Military Counselor, SJAFB School Liaison Officer, military personnel, and parents. The Coalition meets annually to address issues affecting transitional students via a Local Action Plan. PURPOSE OF LOCAL ACTION PLAN To emphasize strategies to be implemented in order to address the issue of transitioning military-connected children.
Mission Statement: The Wayne County Education Coalition will work collaboratively with military families, civilian and military leaders, educators and community members to establish support systems and develop processes that promote smooth transitions and resolve other educational issues related to the military child.
Enrollment Goal To guarantee appropriate placement of new students. Delays in receipt of records could result in insufficient credit being given, credit being denied and postponement of participation in extracurricular activities.

2. Easing Transition Goal Provide new students the opportunity to be involved in the school and to be accepted by their peers. Provide a process to include peer grouping, distribution of correct information, adequate support systems, and an understanding staff.

3. Extracurricular Activities Goal To allow new students to participate in the total school experience, including extracurricular activities. If a student demonstrates a level of skill comparable to the participation at large, accommodation should be made where possible. Acceptance and participation in extracurricular activities eases transition into a new school because the student is immediately associated with other students with the same interests.

4. Junior/Senior Moves Goal Track core subjects for graduation and ensure plan in place to access required courses during the last two years. Students transitioning to a new school during the last two years of high school also face social and emotional hurdles.
