  2. Project overview • Block diagram • Design challenges • Individual contributions • Project demonstration • Questions / discussion Outline

  3. Graphical Audio Visualizer to enhance environment at entertainment venue. • Wireless pillars about 3 ft. tall and 3 in. wide tubes. • Each pillar has custom frequencies set by user on mobile device. • LEDs in each pillar will light up according to amplitude of set frequency in song. • Mobile device will also control settings in base station. • Base station and towers will communicate wirelessly. Project Overview

  4. Block Diagram

  5. Block Diagram

  6. The base station microcontroller traces melted • The tower microcontroller had to be fly-wired • The audio circuit had to be redesigned • The oscillator on the second tower microcontroller failed • The LED strand circuit • Bluetooth voltage issue Hardware Design Challenges

  7. Register initializations • Xbee packet configuration • Bluetooth configuration setup • Peripheral timing • DSP library integration • Polling/interrupt driven combination Software Design Challenges

  8. Team Leader – Tyler Leamon • Hardware Engineer– Eric Bain • Software Engineer– Kevin Baijnath • Software Engineer– Michael Welling Individual Contributions

  9. Researched the LED strips • Designed product packaging • Determined wireless protocols for data • Writing the driver for the LED strips • ZigBee network with XBee radios • Software integration of towers • Soldering the PCBs • Testing Power Circuit • Constructing Final Packaging Team Leader – Tyler Leamon

  10. Designed power circuits • Designed individual packaging • in Eagle • Created the PCB designs • Soldered PCBs • Finalized packaging • Debugged hardware issues Hardware Engineer – Eric Bain

  11. Researched components • Microcontroller configurations • Xbee communication • Bluetooth Communication • Software Integration • Developed Libraries • Software Debugging Software Engineer – Kevin Baijnath

  12. Created initial project schematic • Developed audio circuit • Researched DSP library • Developed audio input functionality • Worked with Bluetooth commands • Codebase integration • LED transmit debugging Software Engineer – Michael Welling

  13. An ability to successfully add or remove towers as needed • An ability to wirelessly transmit LED control data from the base station to remote towers • An ability to control device settings using a mobile device over wireless interface • An ability to display network status on each tower • An ability to process audio input to identify frequency amplitude Project Demonstration
