Definition of Parenthesis • Insertion of some verbal unit in a position that interrupts the normal syntactical flow of the sentence.
Example 1 • So there I was watching my favorite TV. Show when the cable goes out- at the most important part nonetheless-causing me to miss it and throw a tantrum.
Example 2 • As Taylor Swift gave her speech at the VMAs, Kanye West thought it’d be ok to jump on stage and grab the microphone-very rudely I should say- and say she didn’t deserve to win.
Example 3 • The man sat at his desk, two coffee cups in hand, slowly falling sleep until he was awaken-quite suddenly I should add- by the scolding coffee pouring onto his lap.
