Huh? • Basically… a parenthesis consists of a word, phrase, or whole sentence inserted into the middle of another sentence • An interruption of the main thoughtExample: Every time I try to think of a good rhetorical example, I search my brain but– you guessed– nothing happens. Example:But in whatever respect anyone else is bold (I speak in foolishness), I am just as bold myself. 2 Cor. 11:21

  3. Use • Parenthesis can be highlighted either by dashes– they are more dramatic and forceful– or by parentheses (to make your interruption less abrupt). • Parenthesis creates a special kind of rhetorical effect.
