Financing studies and research – full-time students • Doctoral scholarship • 1st year – 6300 CZK (academic year 2016/2017) • 2nd- 4th year – 7600 CZK • After state doctoral exam (usually 3rd year) + 2000 CZK • Specific academic research (SAR/SVV) • Average reward ca 17 500 CZK, maximum reward ca 57 000 CZK • Note: Doctoral scholarship may be reduced (up to 50%) for failure to fulfillthestudy duties. • Administrative tasks: • Takingminutesatthe StateExams – 150 CZK per hour • Participation in the GraduationCeremonies – 400 CZK per hour • Help duringthe admission procedure – 1000 CZK/day • Ad hoc tasks – 150 CZK per hour 9

Application procedure • Admissionto the doctoral studies is held once a year in June • Accepted students enroll in the study in September of the followingacademic year • Applicants must meet following criteria: • Master's degree graduate in the Social Sciences or Humanities • Orientation in the field of study to the extent of the requirements for a Master's in Political science/IR/Security Studies • Proficiency in the English language • Until 30th April 2017, applicants must submit to the Study Office: • Application form (electronic version via SIS or fill out the SEVT form) • CV • Until 1st June 2017, applicants are required to submit their dissertation proposal: • electronic form to cds-ips@fsv.cuni.cz (PS, IR) as well to phd.mv@seznam.cz (only IR) • hard-copy to the CDS at the IPS • Form of the study (internal/external) can be changed during the application procedure. • Study programme (PS/IR) cannot be changed during or after the application procedure. 15
Political Science: admission criteria • Admission procedure consist of an interview with the admission board. • The interview is based on: • Dissertation proposal • Discussion on the submitted list of the academic literature relevantto the proposed research focus • Admissioncriteria are as follows: • Quality of the dissertation proposal (with emphasis on the theoretical and methodological framework) • Orientation in the field of study based on the submitted list of academic literature • Bonus for the previous publishing activities 16
IR: admission criteria • The admission procedure runs in two rounds: • 1st round: • Admission board evaluates the research proposal on the basis of its academic value and its compatibility with the priority topics offered by the Department and sets the required threshold in points for the advance to the second round. • 2nd round: • Applicants who pass the threshold are invited for an interview. • The interview assessobjectives of the research project, theoretical and methodological framework of the proposed projectandfeasibility of the research planand its limits. • Anapplicantcanobtainup to 40 points in eachround. In the secondround 10 points are reserved for eventual bonus for publications (articles, essays) related to the topic of the dissertation project. 17
