How to get (Planning and Scheduling) PSP Certification We all understand that time is money. One of the Project Management Triangle's constraints is time (also called Triple Constraint or the Iron Triangle). One of the criteria that define project success is timely completion. Planning and Scheduling is a critical knowledge area in the Engineering, Construction, and Project Management fields (ECPM). Using Planning and Scheduling tools and techniques increases the likelihood of project completion on time, if not guarantees it. A skilled Planning and Scheduling professional should be familiar with Project Management fundamentals, Critical Path Methods (CPM), Earned Value Management (EVM), and other related knowledge areas.
About Planning and Scheduling (PSP) Certification The Planning & Scheduling Professional (PSP) certification program of the Association of Cost Engineers (AACE) International is intended to establish credentials for Planning and Scheduling Professionals. AACE International is a globally recognized professional organization in the field of cost engineering and project management. The PSP Certification program allows professionals to validate their skills and knowledge in the domain of project planning and scheduling against international professional practices standards. This certification will distinguish you as a Planning & Scheduling Professional who possesses the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure that project time objectives are met. Employers can identify those who meet the program's competency standards by using AACE's PSP certification, which includes an exam and experience validation. PSP Eligibility To be eligible for CCP certification, you must have at least 8 full years of professional experience, with up to 4 years of that experience being substituted by a college/university degree. In other words, if you have a four-year college/university degree, you will need another four years of experience. Engineering, building construction, construction technology, business, economics, accounting, construction management, architecture, computer science, mathematics, and other related degrees are available. When completing the PSP application, you will be required to provide a copy of your experience and education certificates as proof. PSP Exam Format & Fee The exam is administered using computer-based testing (CBT). It includes multiple-choice and scenario questions. There are 120 questions on the exam. There are 119 multiple-choice objective type single and compound questions. There is only one correct answer for each question. One memo question remains. Questions 1 to 60 are single multiple-choice objective questions. Question 61 is a memorization question. The scenario-based compound questions range from 61 to 120. The exam will last 5 hours. To be certified, you must obtain 70% of the possible points.
The exam is a closed book test, which means you are not permitted to bring any books or paper with you, but an onscreen formula sheet is available if needed during the exam. You may also bring any type of calculator you want, including programmable calculators. AACE International members pay $500 for the exam, while non-members pay $625. There is a $200 resit fee.
