2. Ribbon snake looks • Ribbon snakes are very distinct looking snake • Ribbon snakes have 3 yellow stripes on a reddish – brown back ground. • They have pale yellow or pale green belly

3. Sub Species • They have four sub species • The Northern ribbon, Eastern ribbon, Blue stripe ribbon, and the Peninsula ribbon.

4. Family Snake • The ribbon snake is in garter snake family. • They are close relatives to the true garter snake. • The ribbon snakes’ tail is a great way to tell the garter snake and ribbon snake apart.

5. Habitat • Ribbon snakes like to live in wet areas . • They live in wetlands . • Ribbon snakes can be found basking on rocks, in hummocks or muskrat lodges .

6. Habitat 2 • They can also be found resting or climbing dense vegetation near bogs , lakes, ponds ,marshes streams, even seeping springs. • They live in the eastern USA and northern New England. • It is their favorite spot.

7. Reproduction • The ribbon snake mate in April to May • They mate after hibernation • Ribbon snakes give birth to 10 -12 young

8. Lunch!!! • A ribbon snake stalks its prey • It prefers amphibians and cold blooded“ animals like frogs and lizards. • But sometimes they eat fish and insects

9. Protection • They rarely bite • But they secret a foul smelling musk and expelled feces at its tormentor • They can shed their tail and it is found that one third of females shed their tail and less of males do • But sadly it doesn’t grow back
