Tuesday, the 28th of February 2012: PBL and The Aalborg model 9.00 Welcome by lecturer Xiangyun Du and Lars Peter Jensen Introduction and presentation of lecturer and participants. Discussion of participants expectations (reflection-for-action). Introduction to the program. 9.45 Opening exercise/discussion in groups about how to facilitate student’s that are newcomers 10.30 Presentation and discussion of results from the exercise 11.00 Reflection on University teaching and learning, including learning theories and the need for educational change and innovation. PBL history, understanding, philosophy and practice from a global perspective AAU PBL model – history and evidence 12.00 Lunch 13.00 AAU PBL model – history and evidence continued 13.30 Exercise in groups – make a project proposal across different engineering disciplines 14.45 Presentation of project proposals 15.15 PBL as educational model and Practice at Aalborg University 16.00 End of day one

Wednesday, the 11th of April 2012: Results from experiments with facilitation situations + Examination Until the last day of the course the participants are helping each other/sharing experience in Peer Groups making an experiment with supervision. 9.00 Presentation and discussion of group excercises. 12.00 Lunch 13.00 Assessment/Examinations of projects: Why and How 15.00 Unanswered questions and evaluation of the course.
Exercise: Propose a project for first year students across existing disciplines within engineering. Think Blue Sky – No limits, No problems with colleagues, study board, expenses etc. The project shall include basic knowledge from different engineering areas represented in your group. The starting point shall be a problem that has a context and the student need to analyze it to fully understand the problem Be creative, use brain storm, mind map or other tools. Deliveries: A written project proposal (assignment) incl. “Environment”: Group size, number of student’s, Time (hours, credits) Learning goals or possibilities for the students (Assessment) A short presentation (max. 10 min) of the above
