  2. Warm-up • What different uses for a word processing program (Microsoft Word) can you think of. • 3 minutes, 3-5 sentences. • Be sure to explain your answer • Set up your paper for Cornell notes • Title = Intro to Word Processing

What is word processing? • A word processor is defined as any software program that includes tools for entering, editing, and formatting text and graphics (charts, pictures, tables…) • Files created in a word processor are referred to as documents and are saved as .doc or, in newer versions, .docx

  4. Word Features • Word Wrap: A feature that automatically to the next line of text when you reach the side margin • Auto complete: A screen tip suggesting text to insert as you type. • Press enter to insert suggested text. Keep typing to reject suggestion.

Word Features • Auto correct: A small blue box with a lightning bolt appears over any text automatically corrected. • To reverse auto correct, press the Auto Correct arrow and select undo. • Spelling: a red wavy line will appear under text not in the Word dictionary • Grammar: a green wavy line appears under the error. • Right click for correction options

  6. Word Document Window Detailed description of each element is on the class website (lueshen.weebly.com) under Exploring the Word window. Read the document and locate the elements within the word window (10 minutes)

  7. Starting a document • Save the open word window using the save button on the quick start toolbar • Create a folder under My documents with you Name on it. This will be your save folder for the class. • All of your work should be saved to this folder. • Save the document as your name-tour memo • Karlie Wagner – tour memo • Complete the Starting a Document assignment under unit 3 on the website. • Save your work to your folder when finished.

  8. Selecting Text • Any amount = Drag over the text • A word = Double click on the word • A line = click with the pointer to the left of the line • A sentence = press Ctrl and click the sentence • A paragraph = Double click with the pointer to the left of the paragraph • A section = Click at the beginning, press and hold Shift and click at the end • Non-consecutive = Click the first selection, press and hold Ctrl to select additional text • All text = Ctrl + A

  9. Homework Submission • Complete the Selecting Text assignment under unit 3 on the class website. • Save the document • Go to the class website and click on the homework submission link under Assignments • Each class has its own link • Select the Tour Memo folder • Upload your document to the Sky Drive • The upload button is at the top of the screen • Log-in information is on the board.
