DEPARTMENT OF GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING • The Department of Guidance and Counselling is a key stone when dealing with disadvantaged students. • The school counselor meets the needs of the students and helps them with three main domains: • Academic development: getting sure they´re fit in the right course, subject… • Career development • Personal/social development: when the student´s behaviour , background, etc is interfering with his/her achievement
DROPOUT PREVENTION PROGRAM • Many students start at our school and they never finish mainly because they find difficulty in acquiring the aims of the curriculum. • To avoid this, we offer • Extra support lessons • Remedial classes • Literacy and Pre-secondary Education Courses • for students with risk factors for dropout.
To get the driving license it is necessary to pass a test which requires a right level of reading comprehension. Some students can´t get this level: COURSES ON READING COMP FOR THE DRIVING THEORY TEST • Disabled • Inmmigrants • Ethnic minorities • Elderly people
How can we help them? • Improving their self-esteem • Working out their reading comprehension • Teaching them the mechanism to answer multiple choice tests • Advising and being with them in the final test
