Interaction with Local Health Departments • PA-NEDSS does not replace the phone call for 24-hour reportable diseases. • PA-NEDSS replaces the form or card-based reporting for the diseases/conditions that are identified within PA-NEDSS. • There are conditions/diseases that will not be reportable through PA-NEDSS at this time: • HIV/AIDS • Animal bites • Some specific conditions/ diseases that are local health department notifiable conditions
System Requirements • Microsoft Windows 98 or better • includes Windows NT v4.0, Windows 98/98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP • Microsoft Internet Explorer, Version 5.5, Service Pack 1 or better • SP 2 is recommended • Support for session cookies (non-persistent) • Support for JavaScript • Local administrative privileges during installation of ActiveX controls required to generate digital certificates
Demonstrations • Using PA-NEDSS • Create a new patient’s disease report as a clinician • Submit an additional report for an existing patient • Review My Reports inbox • Conduct searches • Create a new patient’s disease report as a lab user
If A Condition/Disease Is Entered Incorrectly Go to My Reports screen to see if the report has been viewed by a public health employee • If public health staff haven’t yet viewed the report • Click on the Edit link under the Report ID to make the desired updates • If public health staff have viewed the report • The Edit link will not be available • Immediately contact your local health department to notify them of the error • Re-submit report with correct information and explain in “notes” text field • Remember: • Reports cannot be deleted once submitted • Health departments may already be acting on the information you enter • Accurate data entry is very important
