  3. ANAB Background • Financially self-supporting non-profit organization in Milwaukee • Governed by 13-member board representing stakeholders • Exists to serve conformity assessment needs of business, CBs, and interested parties

  5. Board of Directors • Responsible for policy, strategic planning, and financial operations and performance • Members represent stakeholders and include technical experts, business executives, industry representatives, with CB representation as a non-voting member

  7. Accreditation Council • Independent body of volunteers responsible to Board of Directors • Approves all technical procedures and advisories • Renders all accreditation decisions, including suspensions and withdrawals

  15. New Program Recycling Industry Operating Standard (RIOS) • Approved by ANAB board 11/2005 • Integrates quality, environment and health and safety management system concepts – industry expected to be ready for certification June 2006, at which time ANAB expects to accept CB applications

  17. How to Proceed Start with RIOS document • Understand requirements • Compare your processes and do gap analysis • Document processes and write your quality manual • Implement new processes

  18. Choosing a CB • Accredited by reputable body • Industry experience, background, and expertise - not related to consulting firm • Recommendations from clients or customers • References provided by CB

  19. Choosing a CB • Scheduling issues and ability to meet your time frame – interview lead auditor • All aspects of CB fee schedule • Comfort level in establishing long term relationship with CB • Choose CB that will help you build better business, not bureaucracy

  20. The Audit • Follow CB process for audit scheduling • Remember auditor is there to find gaps in your system to help you build more robust management process • Auditor will likely find problems

Industry Benchmarks • Automotive provides own oversight and requires certification to do business • Aerospace works with limited ABs and several OEMs requires certification to do business • Telecommunications works with limited ABs and several OEMs requires certification do business • American Chemistry Council requires certification to RC14001 or RCMS as condition of membership
