Different Levels of the Continuum • Level 0 – No Changes • Level 1 – Accommodations - Support and Reinforcement • Level 2 - Changes to activity • Level 3 – Parallel Participation • Level 4 – Partial Participation • Level 5 – Alternative Activity
Let’s Be Proactive • Be “WITH IT” • Request or provide training on specific skills • Ask or provide on the job training for skills • Look to the experts • Collect examples of different interventions • Share and receive information with others
Using the Training • Accommodations and Modifications are changes made to help a student learn at their level • The ESE student can fail but there is still expectations and standards • Trial and error • Student frustration level • Independence = confidence
Important Communication Skills • Polite verbal responses • Compliments • Introductions • Manners • Greet the student • Be patient • Use the “I” word • Make eye contact
