MOAPPP Minnesota non-profit since 1991 Mission: to develop and strengthen policies and programs that promote adolescent sexual health, prevent adolescent pregnancy and support adolescent parents. Provides: Resources Training Public Policy Outreach Communications
Promoting Science-Based Approaches (SBA) Goal: To increase the capacity of Minnesota organizations to use science-based approaches to prevent teen pregnancy and promote adolescent reproductive health, especially organizations serving communities of greatest need. TIER 1: Technical assistance and intensive training with local organizations TIER 2: Outreach to decision-makers & funding organizations TIER 3: Dissemination of SBA information to constituents
Promoting Science-Based Approaches Needs Assessment Findings The majority value the importance of programs or curricula being based on evidence of “what works”. Most common program development strategy was pulling together parts or components of effective programs. Only ¼ of respondents evaluate their program to look for changes in participants’ behavior. Focus on Evaluation and Program Planning Work with decision makers, foundations and funding organizations Intensive technical assistance with local organizations
