HD Tools & Information Amendments for 2010+ Vehicles

The California Environmental Protection Agency Air Resources Board proposes amendments to reinstate tools and information requirements for 2010 and later heavy-duty vehicles and engines. The amendments include all dealer tools, data stream and bi-directional information, and reprogramming in line with SAE J2534 or RP1210a. Contact Dean Hermano for more information.

  2. BACKGROUND • At January 2004 Hearing, the Board Approved Amendments to the Service Information Regulation • Scope of Regulation Expanded to 2007 and Later Heavy-Duty Vehicles, Engines, and Transmissions

BACKGROUND (Con’t) • HD Manufacturer Concerns with Tools and Information Liability • Multiple Engine Ratings and Configurations • Performance and Safety Issues • At May 2004 Hearing, ARB Deleted Tool Requirements until Full OBD Requirements are Proposed • EMD is Only First Stage • Lead Time Needed to Make Tools Safe

PROPOSED AMENDMENTS • Reinstate Tools and Information Requirements for 2010 and Later HD Vehicles and Engines • All Dealer Tools • All Data Stream and Bi-Directional Information for Use in Aftermarket Tools • Reprogramming to be Consistent with SAE J2534 (Dec. 2004) or RP1210a • SAE J2403 Nomenclature • “Diagnostic Message 8” Data (SAE J1939-73)
