What are pidgins? • Pidgin is a modified or simplified language used between groups that don’t have a common language. • It is usually used in business, like trading. (Wikipedia) • Usually pidgins are a blend of one major language, and some other minor languages. • Words in a pidgin language usually have a wide range of meanings, since the vocabulary is very limited. • Nowadays pidgins are starting to disappear since people are taught English. • Pidgins do not have a writing system, until they develop in to creoles. Creole • Creole is like a pidgin but it is spoken as a native language. • Creole is usually a mix of two different languages like english and malaysia (Manglish). • Creoles are like pidgins but they have developted their own writing system
Examples of Creole • Manglish- English based creole that is spoken in malaysia.
