  1. Journal Entry 8/28/15 “Bottle and Ring Experiment”

  2. With your group discuss how can you make the most detailed observations? Place your answers in your science journal

  3. Newton’s 1st Law • An object will stay at rest unless acted upon by a force

  4. Newton’s 1st Law • An object will stay at rest unless acted upon by a force

  5. Enrichment • Plain and simple, the Tablecloth Trick works because of inertia. Newton first described inertia as the tendency for an object at rest to remain at rest until a force acts upon the object. Inertia for an object in motion is the tendency for that object to remain in motion, unless a force acts upon the object. In terms of the Tablecloth Trick, inertia is important because, according to the law, the objects (the stuff on the table) will not move unless an outside force moves them. This is known as Newton's First Law of Motion. - See more at: http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/lab/experiments/trick-with-tablecloth#sthash.kVbk0vTF.dpufAn object will stay at rest unless acted upon by a force

  6. Did the eraser go in the bottle? Why/why not? Write your answer down. You are welcomed to draw observations too!

  7. Now let’s use the tablets to help us make observations. After observing the eraser, what contributed to the eraser sucessfully/unsucessfully fall in the bottle?

  8. Enrichment: Please create 2 questions that deals with today’s lab.

  9. Example RI: What would have happened if we tried this in space???

  10. Conclusion on Butcher Paper
