16. He thought and responded just like you and me • He asked a bunch of questions • He was fearful • He was pushy • He was emotional • He lacked faith • He was self-centered • He got angry • He cussed • He made promises he didn’t keep • He denied the Lord • He felt horrible and useless

20. Let’s look atSimon Peter

21. Simon was a common name(there are at least seven ‘Simons’ mentioned in the Gospels alone)

22. Simon Bar-Jonah was his full name, meaning Simon, the son of Jonah (or John)

23. We know nothing else about his parents

26. Simon means“HEARING”

27. In Luke 6:14, Jesus also named him ‘Peter’ Luke 6:14Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,

28. Peter means“ROCK” • In Greek – PETROS (piece of rock or stone) • In Aramaic – CEPHAS (rock or stone)

29. Jesus changed Simon’s name to what it should be!

30. Hearing is one thing, but being Rock Solid is another!

31. James 1:8A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

32. James 1:22-2521 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

33. James 1:22-2523 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

34. James 1:22-2525 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

35. Peter’s name alwaysappears first when the twelve disciples are mentioned in scripture Matthew 10:2Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

36. Peter stands outas the leader andthe spokesman

37. The twelve are also arranged in three groups of four disciples

38. Peter is always mentioned first inhis group. And of the three groups, Peter’s is always mentioned first!

45. If we are going to be Real and transparent in our Christian lives, we have got to make the move from Simon to Peter!

46. In Luke chapter five, there are four things I see that can help us go from “Simon to Peter!”

47. Luke 5:1-31 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, 2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.

48. Luke 5:1-33 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
