  1. ECT, ECVET and companies

  2. What is ECVET ? what does ECT and ECVET mean for our business? ECVET refers to European Credits for Vocational Education and Training, and specifically relates to the mobility of training when the trainee moves from one training context to another. ECT stands for European Class in Truck maintenance which is a Leonardo mobility project.

  3. Business Needs For our business to succeed in today’s challenging marketplace we must have qualified technicians who are able to: • Diagnose and repair vehicles • Work effectively within the team in the workshop • Communicate with the drivers of Heavy Vehicles • Interact with service departments of vehicle manufacturers

  4. ECVET principles • Until now trainees following a traineeship/apprenticeship towards a qualification could only acquire their skills in local/national training centres and/or in the company • The ECVET system and the ECT project aims to provide trainees with the opportunity to accumulate and gain recognition for training undertaken in another training context/country and for their learning outcomes to be incorporated into the trainee’s National Qualification System • ECVET facilitates the transparency and the accessibility of training programmes based on competences in Europe.

  5. ECVET principles • Thanks to ECVET system, in co-operation with his local training centre, he/she may identify an appropriate training programme in another European country to meet the trainees particular needs • With a suitable partner, hosting the trainee, he/she can be confident in the quality and the level of supervision • In agreement with the trainee a mobility programme may be established and they may seek to receive funding for the mobility from the European commission under a Leonardo Mobility programme

  6. ECVET Benefits for Companies Are there Benefits for our Companies ? YES! • Their trainee technicians will gain additional skills and competencies and broaden their knowledge • Their trainees experience in working and training abroad will give them more confidence in dealing with the company’s customers/clients/drivers from other countries • The trainees will gain new ideas about work practices in other countries, that they might otherwise not be able to assess

  7. ECVET Benefits for Companies • Companies who become hosting partners for trainees from other countries will undoubtedly benefit from learning about different work practices • In addition building on the contact and links with the sending partner they can perhaps look for opportunities for trans-national business cooperation that will benefit both organisations

  8. ECVET testing Experience to date • Since 2006 a pilot project called ECT, involving France, Sweden and Spain has seen several groups of trainees undertaking periods of structured training in each others countries • The duration of the exchange/training mobility has been 3 weeks in each location • Feedback from all the stakeholders, trainees, companies, and training providers has been extremely positive and technicians today need to be highly skilled, especially in the area of communication with customers.
