Focus of the module • An introduction to the types of derivatives, derivative markets, purpose of derivatives • Futures and Forwards • Mechanics of futures markets • Determination of futures and forward prices • Interest Rate Markets • Options and Option valuation • Options Strategies • The binomial model and the Black-Scholes model of option pricing
Assessment • The module is assessed by a two hour examination. • Exam Structure • Two sections: • Section A: MCQ – 60 marks • Section B: Longer answers – 40 marks

Student Feedback Previous Years • All staff including lecturers and tutors explain the questions clearly for us. So it makes this subject not terrible. And so helps us gain confidence for the exam. • Very interesting module, easy to follow and inspired thinking. • Content was new but not too difficult to understand. Being in contact with researchers/scholars helped me to understand the theoretical sides of the topics.
