CommandCentral 5.0 Features • Data analysis for databases, hosts, arrays, and files • Customizable policy-based management to automate notification, recovery, and other user-definable actions • Automatically discovers critical applications such as Oracle databases and Microsoft Exchange as well as infrastructure applications • Real-time performance: Monitors the necessary elements of the data path, including arrays, switches, HBAs, hosts, and applications; alerts on any availability and performance issues • End-to-end storage provisioning across array vendors Source: www.symantec.com
CommandCentral 5.0 Features • Flexible reporting engine for scoping/filtering reports, changing report time frames, and automating the execution and delivery of reports • Network Appliance FlexVol monitoring and reporting • Provides VMware support (Server Virtualization) and Support for Storage Virtualization for HDS TagmaStore and IBM SAN Volume Controller • Enhanced replication support for SRDF and TimeFinder • Improved scalability (3x) • CommandCentral Storage supports over 3,000 servers, 6 petabytes of storage capacity, and 12,000 switch ports within a single data center • Includes Veritas Process Automation Manager which provides IT process management for storage provisioning Centralized Storage Operations for SANs, NAS and DAS with a web based interface for single point of management Note : FlexVol is a technology in which volumes are logical data containers that can be managed and moved independently from the underlying physical storage (in a NetApp System)
CommandCentral Storage Components Based on a distributed client-server architecture, CommandCentral Storage consists of the following components: • CommandCentral Storage Management Server—provides discovery of network and storage resources, storage arrays, hosts, files, and applications; provides data collection and logging, event and policy management, and notification services. • CommandCentral Storage Web Engine—generates HTML pages containing content from the Server. • CommandCentral Storage Agents—discover additional information about objects on the storage network that may be configured out of view of the Server (such as those devices on a separate zone or fabric). • CommandCentral Console—displays information compiled from the SAN Access Layer (SAL) and other Server components through a standard Web browser. • CommandCentral Agent Push Install Utility—enables you to install, upgrade, or uninstall Agents on remote hosts.
CommandCentral Packaging and Pricing Packaging • CommandCentral is available as a standalone product and also available as part of Veritas Storage Foundation Pricing • The base cost for license elements is $25,000 USD • Pricing for CommandCentral Storage is based on a Management Server and the number of clients and ports that are managed and monitored Click here , for detailed information on Pricing Source for pricing: www.searchstorage.techtarget.com

Planting Landmines – CommandCentral 5.0 • Though CommandCentral adopts to a “Single pane of glass” for Managing and reporting, its reporting figures are inaccurate • Scalability – Symantec boosts of CommandCentral scalability limits as 3x to its previous version. However , this is a false claim as CommandCentral 5.0 doesn't seem to scale very well. • As the objects increase, the more inaccurate the details seemed to get. • CommandCentral performance reporting is not detailed as compared to ControlCenter. • ControlCenter's Performance Manager provides superior in terms of metrics available • StorageScope provides a lot of flexibility and options for Storage reporting which no other tool can provide such a granular metrics Source:Internal
