Batteries • Excess of electrons accumulates at one terminal of the battery – negative charge • Electrons withdraw from the other terminal – positive charge. • The energy comes from chemical reactions. • Stored energy is called potential energy
Electrical Energy • All energy is measured in joules (j) • When describing the energy of electrons in a circuit we talk about the potential energy • We always compare one point in the circuit to another. (positive termininal to negative terminal) • Volts = Joules per Coulomb • V = E / Q
