  2. What Done Happened • Stalin and Hitler had been acting like besties, signing peace agreements and breaking up Poland amongst themselves. Stalin, the dumber of the two, really believed that Hitler was his bud, but Hitler planned to attack Stalin all along. • The Nazis had three objectives: take over the western Soviet Union and re-populate it with Germans, use the native Slav population as slave labor during the war and then simply murder them all (literally murder tens of millions of people), and capture the oil resources of the Caucuses and the farmlands of the Ukraine.

  3. What Done Happened • On 6/22/41 3,000,000 German and Italian troops attacked the Soviet Union over an 1,800 mile front. This was and still is the largest invasion force in the history of the world. • Germany pushed deep into Russia, but lost the Battle of Moscow in late 1941. • Then the Russian winter came…and Germany started to retreat. The Russians killed a lot of Germans, but Germany was as defeated by the weather as by the Russians. • Germany tried to starve the Ukraine to death by stealing all of their food. This was actually called “The Hunger Plan”. • Germany murdered Russian POWs – 3.3 million of them – gassing them along with the Jews.
