Joseph Haydn: London Symphony, no. 104 (1795) Movement IV How might this work in reality?
My experience of ‘cultural partnerships’ • At my previous school (Charles Edward Brooke, Lambeth): • Workshops with Tomorrow’s Warriors • Summer residencies at the British Film Institute • Workshops with animateur Hannah Conway • Schools’ workshops at LSO St Luke’s and the Southbank Centre • Lambeth Music Festival at the Southbank Centre • Visits to concerts and shows • At my current school (Woodford County High School, Redbridge): • Pre-concert workshops through the Wigmore Hall Education programme • In-school workshop with KinetikaBloco • Students entering Royal Opera House ‘Fanfare’ competition • Redbridge Music Festival at the Royal Albert Hall • Visits to concerts, operas, ballets and shows
How? • Look up education programmes on websites • Make contact with organisations- and be persistent! • Join mailing lists • Check your emails regularly...!
Potential problems... • Getting students (and staff) off-timetable • Relatively short notice of concert dates etc. • Costs – tickets, transport, workshop charges... • If all else fails... • Evening concerts • Workshops after school • -Run your own workshops – resources and INSET available
