New updates in 2016 • Curriculum Time : 7.30 a.m. – 1.35p.m. (Reporting time remains at 7.20a.m.) • Recess time : 10.40a.m. -11.05a.m. (25 mins) • 3 block periods : For activity based lessons in English, Mathematics & Science • Camp : Term 2 Week 1, Tuesday 22 Mar- Thursday 24Mar • E-learning day : Friday 22 April (home-based) • Homecoming Carnival: Sat 23 April • Founder’s Day( School holiday) : Monday 25 April • Home-Based learning : Mon, 17 October – Thu, 20 October 2016

Reading Programme @ MJS • Boys need rituals - Daily 10 min independent silent reading / read aloud - pupils must bring an English storybook daily • Boys need to have direct access to books -weekly library visits -class library books -monthly-themed activities -termly mobile library visits -book recommendations

  7. Reading Programme @ MJS • Boys need role models • teachers read with their pupils daily for at least 10 mins • teachers share their favourite story books • silent reading in the hall / courtyard on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with teachers - assembly talks by local authors

  8. Home Support • Set aside time each day for independent reading time • Surround your son with books • Read aloud to your son • Show that you too love reading / books

Ask your child to show you : • how he solves a problem • the steps and sequence • the methods and strategies • Encourage your child to: • solve a problem using different heuristics and strategies • create a new problem • make up another problem that can be solved using the same steps or strategy • modify the problems • Ensure that they check if their answer is reasonable (make sense).

If you are not an expert in solving mathematical problems, you can still coach your child and may wish to: • supervise your child’s mathematics homework. • monitor your child’s work at least every weekend. • interact with your child and get him to talk about the mathematics lessons and work. • suggest to your child to teach you what he has learnt at school. • take note of any message that the teacher has sent home for your attention.

  13. Act promptly if you find out that your child is performing badly in mathematics. • Discuss your concerns with your child’s teacher. • Seek help if necessary. • Keep an eye on the progress of your child.

  25. Camp Objectives • To develop students’ confidence, independence and self-efficacy in unfamiliar grounds • To develop students’ social skills and how they relate to others when faced with challenges

  26. Camp Details Venue: Camp Challenge (Sembawang) All meals are provided (Halal; No Beef) Mobile phone usage is prohibited in the camp. Valuables will be kept by teacher

  29. Camp Details The camp packing list will be given to your child in the near future. 24 hours first aid coverage (inclusive of a first aider and a Sick Bay) with transportation facilities to a medical facility Facilitators and Form teachers will be around throughout the 3D2N camp

  30. P 5 Arts Program This year we have combined music and art lessons of 3 periods each week. Animation will be the focus of our Montfort Art progammes. Pupils will be exposed to many different ways to do animation throughout their six years with us. Curriculum Pupils will be doing: Term 1 – Guitar Term2 – Relief Clay Art Term3 – Photography Term 4 – Learning Journey on Photojournalism

  35. How does Subject-based Bandingwork at P5?

  36. Progression to SecondaryLevel • Progression to secondary level depends on PSLE Score. Different expectations of standard and foundation subjects will be taken into account when the PSLE score is calculated. • Offering subjects at foundation level is not a disadvantage. Your child will be able to focus on building up strong fundamentals in the weaker subjects.

Partnership with Parents • Every parent a Supportive partner through : • Design daily time-table together with your son for homework and revision so as to manage his time more efficiently • Teach them the discipline to follow the time-table • Check your son’s diary daily for homework or note from teacher • Inculcate and nurture good habits – completion of homework, revision of topics taught, packing of bag daily, coming to school regularly and punctually
